Montreal Sexual Dysfunctions

Sexual dysfunctions are (a) disturbances in the normal sexual response cycle; or (b) pain associated with sexual intercourse.

The sexual response cycle can be divided into 4 phases:

  1. Desire (sexual fantasies or wishes to engage in sexual relations)
  2. Excitement (pleasure associated with an erection for males and vaginal lubrication for females)
  3. Orgasm
  4. Resolution (relaxation)

Specific sexual dysfunctions represent difficulties in one or more of the first 3 phases of the sexual response cycle – for example:
