Montreal Sexual Dysfunctions
Sexual dysfunctions are (a) disturbances in the normal sexual response cycle; or (b) pain associated with sexual intercourse.
The sexual response cycle can be divided into 4 phases:
- Desire (sexual fantasies or wishes to engage in sexual relations)
- Excitement (pleasure associated with an erection for males and vaginal lubrication for females)
- Orgasm
- Resolution (relaxation)
Specific sexual dysfunctions represent difficulties in one or more of the first 3 phases of the sexual response cycle – for example:
Sexual Dysfunctions are also associated with sexual pain:
- Phase I: Low sexual desire
- Phase II: Erectile Dysfunction (ED) in men, and inability to achieve/maintain vaginal lubrication and swelling in women
- Phase III: Inability to attain an orgasm in women or premature ejaculation in men
At the Montreal Clinic for Therapy Services, our psychologists and counseling professionals have benefited from specialized Ph.D. level training in the area of sexual dysfunctions. This specialization included a full year of supervised training at reputable sites such as the Royal Victoria Hospital. This extensive training has provided our therapists with the expertise necessary to help you become more comfortable with sex.
